The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts is a state of the art facility located on Michigan Tech’s campus. The facility is not only home to the Samuel and Grace Horner Lobby and James, Margaret Black Performance Hall, and The Klungness Stage, but also many facilities usable by students including a band room, choir room, multiple practice rooms, and recording studio. History of the Rozsa

The Rozsa’s construction began in the late 1990’s, and officially opened with a dedication ceremony on October 5th, 2000. The Rozsa was build with a $20 Million budget, where 75% of the funds came from private gifts from such people as Ted and Lola Rozsa, Bob and Virginia Horner, Jim and Verle Klungness, and Jim and Margaret Black. The other 25% of the budget came from the State of Michigan. Upon the completion of the Rosza Center for the Performing Arts, the acting Chair of the Fine Arts Department, Milt Olsson, had this to say, “The James and Margaret Black Performance Hall will attract prospective students who value the arts and wish to continue their participation while pursing major studies in science or engineering.” Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts Dedication. Houghton Michigan: Michigan Technological University, 2000 Little did Milt know that within a few years of the opening of the Rozsa, the Fine Arts Department would become the Department of the Visual and Performing Arts and would start to offer something more to students in the form of Bachelor’s of Arts and Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in a large number of the arts.

The Rozsa Foundation

The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts on Tech’s campus is not the only Rozsa out there. There is another Rozsa Center in Calgary, Alberta, CA built before the Rozsa Center at Michigan Tech. A large part of the reason there are two Rozsa Centers is due in large part to the Rozsa Foundation which not only supports the arts, but students and community members who perform or study the arts for a living. *Rozsa Foundation

The Rozsa Center, and more importantly the Margaret Black Performance Hall, is a highly versatile space that can transform to suit the need of almost any act that can be held there. The great people that work there, and the equipment that they use allow the audience to be wrapped up in any performance or event that occurs there. The measurements were taken with the sound source of the QSC sub and speaker on the front of the stage (before apron) and the microphone about 5 rows before Front of House. Six collections of data were taken using the four acoustic curtains that hang above the house. The "V" patter is setting the curtains (front to back) at 1/4 open, 1/2 open, 3/4 open, and closed.
